The World Stroke Congress is staged every four yAbout Vancouverears under the auspices of the International Stroke Society. The last meeting was in Melbourne, Australia in 2000. At that meeting Drs. Vladimir Hachinski and John W. Norris successfully bid for the Canadian Stroke Consortium to host the 2004 event. The World Stroke Congress will be held in Vancouver, B.C. June 23-26th. It will be the largest stroke meeting to-date, anywhere, and will truly be global in attendance and participation. We anticipate over 3,000 attendees representing neurologists, stroke experts and vascular medicine specialists. We expect nearly equal participation from Europe, North America and from Asia and the Pacific Rim.

Vancouver is a safe and beautiful city and June is prime time. The Vancouver airport is the prettiest in the world and has excellent direct coVancouvernnections to all major hubs in North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim. The Convention facilities at the Trade and Convention Centre on the waterfront in downtown Vancouver are excellent. Kenes International serves as our meeting organizer and has enormous experience with neurology meetings.

Our partners in this venture are the National Stroke Association, an organization that provides education, services and community-based activities in stroke prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and recovery and will hold their Annual Meeting within the program and the Canadian Stroke Network, an organization that links and supports diverse research expertise with industry, health-care practitioners, public stroke organizations and policy makers. They will also hold their Annual Meeting within the program.

As the host organization, the Canadian Stroke Consortium (an academic alliance of members who design and conduct stroke clinical trials across Canada) will also hold our Annual Investigators Meeting during this meeting.
